Cold Stone Face Massage from A Caring Touch: Massage Therapy in State College, PA

What is it?

A massage on the face using cold marble stones to execute the massage strokes. The specially shaped marble stones are chilled. This differs from the basalt stones used in hot stone massages since basalt is pourous and retains heat while marble has a natural ability to run cold, so chilling the stones makes it an ideal material for a cold massage. Massage strokes are done with the stones instead of the hands or fingers.

The massage provides a brisk, cooling effect to the face that constricts blood vessels and eases inflammation. The face can often feel puffy or heavy, especially in seasons that trigger allergies or sinus issues. Cold can help calm the puffy feeling and restrict the swollen vessels that contribute to that feeling. It also tones and tightens the skin while reducing redness.

Why?

The cold stones help calm inflammation and can ease pressure and pain while also encouraging a feeling of rejuvenation. The cold constricts blood vessels and decreases metabolic activity in targeted areas, providing immediate relief from swelling and discomfort, making it particularly beneficial for acute injuries, migraines, and sinus congestion. The benefits of using this cold on the face include easing pain and pressure, decreasing puffiness, and calming sinus pain and pressure. It also encourages lymphatic drainage and clearing out clogged sinuses while contributing to a tightening of the skin which may decrease the appearance of redness and wrinkles.

Is it for me?

Since cold constricts blood vessels, it is great for helping ease pain and inflammation while being both soothing and rejuvenating. This massage can feel wonderful if you have sinus pain and pressure and want to encourage a calming of inflammation in the face or sinuses. It also can be a refreshing and rejuvenating treat to help the appearance and feeling of the skin on the face.
