What is it?
Aromatherapy involves the use of essential oils to enhance both the physical and emotional benefits of a massage through the addition of scent. The oils are carefully selected and added into the massage through inhalation and skin absorption.
This can be done by adding essential oils to the massage oil or lotion, or by allowing you to breathe in the aroma throughout your session through the oil being added to a diffuser to additionally scent the air for a more immersive experience. The activation of the sense of smell allows the body to be more aware and receptive to the full benefits of the massage therapy treatment.
Why?
Using the natural benefits of the plants they are made out of, aromatherapy helps enhance the effects of massage by promoting relaxation, reducing stress, and supporting overall balance in the body. Different oils offer different benefits, such as calming the nervous system, uplifting mood, or easing muscle discomfort.
When combined with massage, aromatherapy can deepen relaxation and create a more soothing and therapeutic experience by engaging both the body and the senses.

Is it for me?
Aromatherapy is a great addition to a massage if you want to enhance the relaxation and benefits of your massage or address specific concerns such as stress, tension, or low energy. It is a customized experience, as oils can be chosen based on your preferences or desired effects.
This is an easy way to elevate a regular massage without taking time away from the actual massage or needing additional time. If you are looking for deeper relaxation, emotional balance, or simply a comforting sensory experience, consider adding aromatherapy to your next massage therapy session or ask your massage therapist about their recommendations for how you can incorporate aromatherapy into your life on your own.
