Busting Prenatal Massage Myths #6: Prenatal massage is only for women with pain or complications.

Myth: It is a common thought that massage is only needed if you are in pain. Otherwise it is just a luxury to “feel good”.

Where it comes from: There is still an old-school perception that pregnant women need to be basically wrapped in bubble wrap and not touched due to their “delicate condition”. This also doesn't just go for women who are pregnant. Many people believe that if they do not have a specific ailment or painful condition, they don't need massage, it is just a treat (or worse, some believe it is something else altogether). This couldn’t be farther from the truth. For pregnant women, if they are feeling ok and not in pain, it can be easy to neglect self-care since they aren't hurting or in need to pain relief.

Fact: Massage is beneficial for any pregnant person—not just those in discomfort. It supports overall well-being, reduces stress, and improves sleep and circulation.. During pregnancy, there is so much happening to the body every single day. While muscles are stretching, bones are moving, there is also an increased load on the heart and circulatory system, plus hormones are doing crazy things that nobody may actually be aware of. Massage throughout pregnancy can keep the mom-to-be feeling good before she ends up starting to feel negative side effects and can maintain feeling healty throughout the entire pregnancy and delivery.
